Squire's are delighted to have been awarded a Silver Medal at this years' Royal Horticultural Society Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
Colin Squire explained the philosophy behind the exhibit "the garden is designed around a charming summerhouse with surrounding paved areas and a number of planted containers. The planting also features scented roses and attractive cottage garden plants with accompanying ornamental trees and shrubs. The idea was to build a pretty garden on a scale that visitors can relate to and to create a look that is achievable at home by using proven plant varieties that do well for gardeners and are readily available to the public in garden centres".
We took inspiration from our first retail nursery which was located in Sunbury on Thames and comprised a wooden greenhouse, come potting shed, come shop. We have not sought to create a carbon copy but more to evoke the spirit of the old place with its planted borders and paved areas.
The planting is traditional but we have chosen modern subjects because there are so many more wonderful plants available to gardeners than there used to be. We wanted to showcase plants that are easily obtainable and are well worth a place in any garden.
Although garden centres have come a long way since the early days the aim remains the same, to give customers high quality plants and good advice so they too can experience the fun of gardening and the enjoyment that plants can bring.
