Family Days Out: Things to Do with the children at Squire’s

As parents, we know it can sometimes be difficult to find new places and things to do with the family, especially during the school holidays. You’re busy enough as it is, so we’ve taken the liberty of putting a little guide together for things to do at Squire’s Garden Centre’s with the children.

Our Centres

Our garden centres are wonderfully inviting, friendly, welcoming and unique places. There are 15 Squires Garden Centres to discover across Surrey, Sussex, Middlesex, North and West London. And each of them is ideal for whiling away a few hours as a family.

We have close connections with schools and the local community – with a particular passion for encouraging new generations of gardeners through a year-round programme of workshops for all ages and abilities.

We’re a family business ourselves, so we pride ourselves on creating places where families can come to relax and enjoy themselves. All our centres offer you wonderful Café Bar;  the majority of which have outdoor eating areas to enjoy. We have an amazing range of products so you can browse at your leisure, and plenty of parking to make sure your family day is fun for everyone, and as stress-free as possible.

Worth noting, our Milford centre is proud to have the only National Plant Collection of Kalmia latifolia cultivars in Britain, which are situated in our extensive garden, which is a lovely spot to enjoy lunch.

A Variety of Events

Our centres run a range of events, masterclasses and talks for our customers and their children. We run a lot more during the school holidays, so it pays to check back here often.

At Badshot Lea and Washington there’s a pottery painting studio, called Mambo Jambos – suitable for ages 1 to 100 – where you can have fun and relax as a family, getting creative, and enjoying a drink and snack while you’re there. The studio is open 7 days a week and can be booked for private use.

Most of our centre’s run activities aimed at helping children create and grow. These are family sessions aimed at those with younger children, giving them the opportunity to get creative, learn more about gardening, wildlife and the natural world and get their hands dirty with a range of gardening and craft activities. It’s a fun, hands-on way for children to learn about nature and the part plants play in our lives.

Other events at selected centres include pottery classes, knitting mornings, craft demos and opportunities to get to know our animals and fish a little better.

During the festive season, we have great fun at Squire’s. Families love to visit our centres and look at our creative displays in our Christmas shop. You can enjoy Christmas dinner together throughout December and even get to meet Santa in one of our grottos or Christmas circus.

We’re confident there’s bound to be something they’ll love. Just remember to check our ‘what’s on’ page often!

Soft-Playtime

Let’s face it, children have energy to burn. So, if your children love to run and play, visit our centre in Washington, which has a free soft play area or Badshot Lea (Farnham) which has a free outdoor play area or Shepperton, which has an indoor  Soft-play Hive called Buzzy Bumbles, which is a paid for room and can be hired for children’s parties in the afternoon.

See the Pets & Aquatics

Introduce your children to our small furry animals and fish. Four of our centres (Badshot Lea, Stanmore, Twickenham, Washington) have pet and aquatics centres with small furry animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and more to see. We also have a rather eye-catching array of reptiles from snakes to tortoises, as well as an impressive range of fish. Our Badshot Lea centre boasts the largest selection of tropical, fresh-water and cold-water fish in the area.

Feeding the Little Ones

We offer a range of children’s bites and snacks at each of our centre Café Bars. Our children’s menus vary from centre to centre, but each of them gives you a variety of fresh options to keep your little ones happy. Popular dishes include: Children’s lunch pick & mix, chicken goujons, fish fingers and mini breaded cod & chips.

Each of our centres has a Café Bar that offers breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. We use the best ingredients to make our delicious meals and source locally where we can. Our helpful, friendly staff serve a fantastic selection of hot and cold meals, snacks and salads, children’s meals and a mouth-watering collection of cakes and pastries.

A Little Gift

We have plenty of toys for indoor and outdoor play at home, as well as books, games and more to complete the day, and soften the disappointment when the time comes to go home.
