Snowy conditions could not defeat the crowd that came to see much loved gardening expert and TV presenter Charlie Dimmock officially re-open Squire’s Garden Centre in Woking last Saturday 17th March.

Charlie Dimmock was at Squire’s all day hosting a number of gardening activities, including planting up pots to raise money for the charity Greenfingers, a Gardeners Question Time, a Spring Container Workshop, and she launched Squire’s ‘Grow Your Own Chips’ initiative for school children showing them how to grow potatoes in pots.

Customers enjoyed live music from the Panama Jazz Band, and children were treated to face painting, balloon sculptures and clowns teaching them how to spin plates. Charlie and Chairman Colin Squire OBE helped plant a majestic Cloud Tree at the entrance to the garden centre to commemorate the opening.

Charlie Dimmock said, “It was an absolute delight to spend the day at Squire’s in Woking and to see this fantastic new garden centre. I really enjoyed meeting so many people who are as enthusiastic about gardening as I am. It was a fun day and great to see so many children learning about gardening too.”

Sarah Squire, deputy chairman at Squire’s commented, “I’d like to thank Charlie for coming to officially re-open Squire’s in Woking. It was lovely to welcome her back to Squire’s as she has previously been to some of our other garden centres. She has so much energy, enthusiasm and horticultural knowledge, and all day I kept hearing customers saying ‘she’s great isn’t she’. I’d also like to thank everyone who came on Saturday and braved the snow. Charlie joked that it was ‘typical Ground Force weather!’ but the garden centre looked stunning nonetheless. Our team has put a lot of hard work into making it a beautiful place to visit, with lots of fantastic new stock. As a local family business, we are delighted to be open and part of the local community again, and I hope that this will be a garden centre that local people can be justly proud of having in their midst.”

Squire’s Garden Centre on Littlewick Road in Woking has had a significant extension and a stunning makeover. There’s an inspirational plant area with an outdoor canopy to keep you and the plants dry, a much bigger shop, and the Café Bar has been extended and completely refurbished and now has a beautiful outdoor verandah where you can sit and admire the plants. Full waiting service means that you can order from the comfort of your table, plus every Sunday in March there’s live music from Surrey-based classical guitarist Richard Veitch between 12.30pm-2.30pm.
