Squire’s Hare Hatch Celebrates Horticulture & Heritage with New Look Café

Restaurant team – Assistant Café Bar Manager – Sophie Taylor and Kevin Elvin

Squire’s Garden Centres is delighted to announce the unveiling of new look, extended Café Bar, “Squires 1936”, at Squire’s Hare Hatch in Twyford, today (22 September).

This exciting new concept pays homage to the company’s founding year of 1936, when D.J. Squire established the family-owned business. The look and feel of “Squires 1936” reflects the colours, tones and art deco charm of the 1930s, while delivering a modern, comfortable dining experience with extended seating for up to 190 guests.

Among the new features is The Nook, a peaceful seating area perfect for those seeking a quieter experience, which can also be hired for private functions. A separate internal dog-friendly area is being trialled, allowing visitors to enjoy a drink or bite to eat alongside their four-legged friends. Customers will also benefit from environmentally friendly lighting, creating a softer and more relaxing atmosphere, and climate-controlled air management, promoting both comfort and improved energy efficiency.

The Café Bar also features a stylish new servery, designed to evoke the charm of a 1930s shop counter. With decorative wooden-style storage, cloches and jars highlighting teas and coffees, the servery offers a blend of nostalgia and efficiency. Customers can now choose to order in person, at the counter, or use the convenient Friends of Squire’s loyalty App service for faster ordering.

Décor has been carefully curated to emphasise the horticultural focus and heritage of Squire’s. With new furniture, the Café Bar has stylish shelving filled with vintage and historical gardening book displays are interspersed with decorative greenery. Alongside horticultural artwork, historical photographs from the family archive proudly reflect the legacy of the Squire family business.

Graham Fitsell, Squire’s Hare Hatch Centre Manager, comments: “We are so excited to welcome customers to our brand-new Café Bar, “Squires 1936”. It provides a fresh new look and a wonderfully relaxed environment for customers to enjoy, whether they’re here for a quiet moment in The Nook, visiting with their dog or sampling our new menu. We’re really proud that this new space offers something for everyone and enhances the overall experience at Hare Hatch.”

Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres, adds: “The relaunch of the centre’s Café Bar has provided a wonderful opportunity to incorporate aspects of our history and heritage at Hare Hatch. As we look forward to celebrating our 90th anniversary next year, “Squires 1936” is both a nod to our founding years and a celebration of our enduring values. We hope customers will enjoy the thoughtful details, from the décor and artwork to the menu, which reflect who we are and our story.”

New Menu Launch

“Squires 1936” will also debut an exciting new menu launching on 14 October, along with all Squire’s Café Bars, featuring a fresh range of dishes made with quality, ingredients locally sourced, where possible. Highlights of the menu available at Hare Hatch include Slow Braised Lamb Shank, Traditional Fish Pie and Pumpkin & Ricotta Ravioli. The menu includes a wide selection of Breakfast options, Lighter Bites and Squire’s Classics for customers to enjoy.

A Re-freshed Shopping Experience

Alongside the new Café Bar, customers will also notice other exciting changes across the centre, with stylish fixtures and fittings as well as extended ranges across gardening and seasonal products. These updates come together to deliver a fresh, easy-to-shop experience for visitors to Squire’s Hare Hatch.
