Squire’s Milford Re-Launches Greener Than Ever!

Squire’s Garden Centres is thrilled to re-launch its Milford centre, marking a new chapter for the site with an enhanced shopping experience and a strong commitment to sustainability.

Squire’s Milford has evolved over the years with various modifications, from traditional glasshouses to a modern garden centre. This latest redevelopment has provided the perfect opportunity to reimagine the centre with the customer at the heart of the design, alongside ambitious environmental initiatives that make Milford the most sustainable centre in the Squire’s group.

Every element of this redevelopment has been carefully considered – from reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, to enhancing biodiversity while ensuring a fantastic shopping experience for our customers. We hope visitors will enjoy the new look and feel of the centre, knowing that these improvements have been made with both the environment and our community in mind.”

A Greener Future for Milford

Sustainability has been a guiding principle throughout the redevelopment, with key initiatives including:

• Solar Energy – The new roof features 288 solar panels, reducing CO2 emissions by 23.5 tonnes annually. During the summer, surplus energy will be fed back into the grid.
• Fossil Fuel-Free Heating & Cooling – A new energy-efficient system provides better air quality and humidity control, matching heating and cooling to real-time needs and eliminating wasted energy. All refrigerants used are ozone-friendly.
• Water Conservation & Wildlife Protection – An attenuation tank has been installed to slow the release of rainwater, reducing the risk of flooding in the locality. This water will also feed into a new wildlife pond, creating a haven for local biodiversity.
• Intelligent Lighting System – A smart lighting system now regulates brightness based on natural light levels, reducing energy use, while new feature lighting enhances key product displays.
• Sustainably Sourced Materials – 92%of site waste during the redevelopment has been recycled, with materials sourced locally wherever possible. All timber used is responsibly and ethically sourced.
• Caring for the Landscape – The redevelopment was completed with strict tree root protection measures, safeguarding existing trees. A newly landscaped front lawn area will soon feature native trees, ornamental shrubs – all peat-free and UK-grown – to support wildlife.

As well as its sustainability credentials, the refurbishment brings a brighter and more inviting shopping experience. The new entrance and exit improve accessibility, while an expanded shop floor offers customers an even greater selection of plants, gardening products, gifts and outdoor living essentials.
