Squire’s Shepperton Celebrates 50 years with Anniversary Tea Party

Guests, customers and members of the local community came together at Squire’s Garden Centres in Shepperton last week to celebrate a very special milestone – 50 years since the centre first opened.
The anniversary tea party was hosted by Chairman Emeritus, Colin Squire OBE, and his daughter, Chairman, Sarah Squire, and was a wonderful afternoon of music, conversation, and of course, Squire’s signature afternoon tea.
Attendees were warmly welcomed with a glass of fizz, followed by a delicious selection of sandwiches, scones and sweet treats prepared by the Shepperton Café Bar team. The event was accompanied by beautiful music from talented local harpist, Rebeca Jones, creating a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere.
The Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr John Doran, attended with the Mayoress, along with Nick Wood-Dow DL (Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey)* and Chair of Spelthorne in Bloom, who gave a short speech congratulating Squire’s on the garden centre’s golden anniversary. Colin Squire also spoke, sharing memories of Shepperton’s early days and rose growing on the site.
The event also marked the culmination of two years of fundraising by the centre in support of its local charity partner, Spelthorne Dementia Support (Purple Angels). Guests generously supported a charity raffle on the day, raising an impressive £325 for the cause.
Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres, commented: “We are so proud to celebrate 50 years of Squire’s Shepperton. This centre holds a very special place in our company’s history and in the hearts of our colleagues and customers. It was a true pleasure to celebrate this milestone with friends old and new, and I’d like to thank everyone who joined us. My thanks also go to the Shepperton team who created such a warm and memorable event for our guests.”
