Trachycarpus fortunei – also known as the Chusan Palm or Windmill Palm – is one of the hardiest palms available, perfect for adding an instant tropical feel to UK gardens. This mature specimen stands at approximately 120–130cm tall (including the pot) with a 27cm diameter container, making it a striking feature for patios, entrances, or exotic planting schemes.
It has a sturdy trunk covered in fibrous brown material and large, fan-shaped, rich green fronds that spread elegantly from the top. Trachycarpus fortunei is fully hardy in most parts of the UK and tolerates frost, wind, and even snow once established. It prefers a sunny or lightly shaded position and thrives in free-draining soil or large containers. Low maintenance and slow-growing, it's ideal for creating year-round architectural interest.
