Grow your own fresh chives with these quality seeds from Fothergills. A hardy perennial, chives can be grown in pots or directly in the garden, making them a versatile addition to any home. With a mild onion flavour, they’re perfect for adding a delicate touch to dairy dishes, salads, and garnishes. Their attractive flowers can also be used decoratively.
How to Sow and Grow:
Indoors: Sow all year round for indoor crops, or March to May for outdoor crops. Plant seeds 0.5cm deep in small pots of compost, keep moist, and maintain a temperature of 15–20°C. Seedlings appear in 14–21 days.
Outdoors: Sow 0.5cm deep in prepared soil from March to May. Thin seedlings to 20cm apart and keep moist.
Harvesting: Cut leaves as required once plants reach 15cm tall (outdoor crops from June).
