Being native to Mediterranean climates this tender tree is best kept indoors or in a heated greenhouse away from any frosts or cold periods, this lemon tree allows you to grow edible lemons! Enjoying a very sunny, warm area we recommend keeping this plant indoors or in a warm greenhouse during the winter and once the frosts have gone you can place this tree outside where it can get the most amount of sunlight possible allowing it to grow more leaves giving you a high yield boasting larger fruits. Lemon trees are a slow grower (typically a few inches a year) and don’t like being sat in water so wait until the leaves are drooping or the top few inches are bone dry then water thoroughly, Raising the pot will allow more water to drain freely imitating their natural environment. Lemons tend to take up to a year for the fruit to mature their fruit however we strongly advice not to grow any fruit for the first 3 years at least as this can damage the plant with the weight of all the fruit. Pruning isn’t necessary as they form rounded balls on the top section of the tree covering the fruit and sheltering itself naturally from any strong winds. We would class this as a thirsty tree so a good Azalea, Camellia feed once a month will help boost leaf growth. Lemon trees can reach up to 3 metres with a spread of only 1m.
