Often referred to as 'Portuguese Laurel', this evergreen shrub is perfect for creating a screen in your garden. Dark red shoots produce green, slender, oval shaped leaves which are joined in early summer by spikes of white flowers which are followed in autumn by deep purple berries. This plant enjoys moist but well-drained soil and a position in full sun to partial shade. The potential height is 15 metres with a potential spread of 10 metres over 20 years, but can easily be pruned in early summer to maintain the size you desire.
