Help the environment by doing more planet friendly gardening.
Gardens are an increasingly important part of the natural environment – as gardeners we can all help tackle both the causes and effects of climate change, right on our doorsteps.
Discover our sustainable swaps, highlighted with our sustainability icon, to make your garden as green as it can be, reduce your carbon footprint and provide vital habitats for wildlife.
Plant Food
Swap synthetic fertilisers for organic feed e.g., compost, bone meal or manure.

Grow your Own
Swap supermarket fruit and veg for more home-grown, helping to reduce food miles.

Save Water
Swap your hosepipe for a barrel or water butt to collect rainwater.
Mulch the base of plants to prevent drying.

Go Peat Free
Swap peat based compost for peat free compost.
Make your own compost by recycling food and using natural waste e.g., grass cuttings.

Garden Boundaries
Swap fences with gravel boards for hedges, which offer wildlife easier access, habitats and counters air pollution.

Go British
Swap imported plants and trees for native ones, they are easier to grow and provide food and shelter for wildlife.
80% of Squire’s plants are British Grown.
Look out for the British icon on our plants on our online shop.

Grass go Wild
Swap mowing the lawn regularly to leaving long patches of grass; a great source of food and habitat for wildlife, and it also reduces the need to water.

Digging up Paving Slabs
Swap paving slabs for plants. Help purify the air and improve drainage by planting trees and plants instead.
