Celebrate High Summer with a Squire’s Afternoon Tea

During the 1880’s, a pause for tea became a fashionable social event, usually served in the drawing room between four and five o’clock.  The good news is that the tradition continues – and we offer the perfect Afternoon Tea menu, served daily from 2pm, comprising a delicious selection of plain, fruit or gluten free scones with a jam of choice and clotted cream, sandwiches, canapes and sweet treats, including salted caramel tartlets and indulgent macarons.  The menu includes a choice of coffee or loose-leaf tea and priced at just £17.95.  Mouth-watering vegetarian and gluten free preferences are also available.  To make the occasion extra special, prosecco or Champagne* choices make a perfect addition to a Squire’s Afternoon Tea experience.

A special treat to enjoy with friends as we near the end of summer – or mark an occasion – and savour the last of the outdoor days alfresco, taking Afternoon Tea in one of our Café Bar terrace areas.  Equally, Afternoon Tea may be enjoyed indoors, now and throughout the year, within the comfort of the light and airy Café Bars.

In the tradition of making the perfect preparations for a special Afternoon Tea, appreciating that it is an indulgent occasion for many customers, advanced booking is essential, and we ask customers to make booking at least 72 hours in advance, as well as make their personal selection of choices from the delicious Afternoon Tea Menu.

Sarah Squire, Chairman, comments: “We know our Café Bars are an important part of customers’ visits to our garden centres and that they eat with us at different times, be that breakfast, lunch, light snack or simple a coffee stop choosing from our extensive menu.  Our pre-booked, table-service Afternoon Tea however offers customers something a little more indulgent, enjoyed in the comfort of our relaxed Café Bars – either inside or alfresco.

“As well as serving a varied menu, using the best of ingredients, we pride ourselves on providing an excellent, friendly service.  Since we launched our latest Afternoon Tea menu earlier this year, we have had a brilliant response to it from our customers.”

The only thing left to do, is decide is the time to enjoy a special Afternoon Tea – and whether scones are enjoyed the Devon way – with the cream first and then the jam – or the Cornish way, with the jam first followed by the cream!
