Join Colin & Sarah Squire at Squire’s Twickenham for their 60 Year Anniversary Tea Party

Customers are warmly invited to join Colin Squire OBE., Chairman Emeritus, and his daughter, Sarah Squire, Chairman, for a special Anniversary Tea Party this spring, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Squire’s Twickenham.

Customers will be treated to a very special afternoon including a glass of fizz on arrival and an afternoon tea menu especially put together for the occasion, to comprise an assortment of sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, plus a selection of petit fours, served with a refreshing pot of tea.  Vegan and gluten-free alternatives are available.

There will be music provided by local harpist, Rebeca Jones.  Tickets cost £20 per person and can be booked online or in-store.

Supporting the local community and charities has been at the heart of the Squire’s family philosophy for more than 85 years.  Continuing this support, there will be a raffle at the Twickenham Anniversary Tea Party, supporting the centre’s current ‘Charity of the Year’, Friends of Anstee Bridge.

Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres, comments: “My father and I are very much looking forward to celebrating this very special milestone for our Twickenham centre.  We aim to be at the heart of the communities we serve – and our family and our garden centre colleagues are delighted to share our celebrations with our customers.  The Anniversary Tea Party will be a wonderful way to mark the occasion with the people who matter most to us.”

Make a date and come and celebrate 60 years of horticultural expertise by attending one or two of the special events taking place at Squire’s Twickenham this year, including a series of talks by guest speakers. Keep an eye on the Squire’s website for further details over the coming months.

Squire’s Twickenham

2024 sees the 60  year anniversary of Squire’s very first garden centre. Squire’s Twickenham was opened by Colin Squire back in 1964, it was pioneering as one of only a handful of garden centres across the country at the time.  When Squire’s was founded in 1935 the main activities were landscaping small domestic gardens. During the 1960s people became more interested in gardening for themselves rather than employing a gardener.  In response to this, Squire’s opened its first garden centre in Sixth Cross Road, Twickenham, in 1964. Over the years, horticultural retailing has become the most important part of the business, with garden centres created at Shepperton, Badshot Lea, Hersham, Chertsey, Woking, West Horsley, Crawley, Reigate, Long Ditton, Washington, Stanmore, Milford, Cobham, Frensham and Wokingham.
