Squire’s Garden Centre Teach Children How to Grow Their Own Chips!

Children from Bishop Perrin Primary School with former pupil Colin Squire

We have been teaching local groups across the South East how to grow their own chips!

Each child was given a pot, compost, and three chitted potatoes, which they were shown how to plant. Then they got to take their pot of potatoes home to look after.

Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s said; “We want children to love gardening as much as we do. Our ‘Grow Your Own Chips’ event makes gardening fun with a little learning thrown in too. It’s so important that children understand where their food comes from, and gain an understanding of how to grow plants and look after them.”

The children will be bringing their pots back to us in June to have their potatoes weighed and see who has grown the most potatoes. The winning child from each school will receive a goody bag, and all of them will have their potatoes turned into chips in our Café Bar – and get to eat them of course. Yum!
