Squire’s Helps Gardeners with Peat Free Talks

Squire’s Garden Centres has announced it will run a series informative talks, so customers can learn the importance of using peat free, what it is made from and, crucially, how to achieve the best results. Squire’s has not bought bagged compost containing peat since 2022 and is dedicated to eliminating bags of compost containing any peat content from its business.

Hosted in partnership with Melcourt, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of peat free compost, their range of products are RHS endorsed and they are Royal warrants holder. Industry expert Neil Gray will run the series of short talks along with a Q&A session at six Squire’s locations (see below), running from 16-18 April (tickets can be booked online or in-store), advanced booking is essential.  Tickets for the event cost £8 per person and include the talk, tea or coffee and cake, plus a bag of SylvaGrow Peat Free Multi-purpose Compost. Talks will last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A.

Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres, comments: “The subject of peat – while much debated in the industry and with the challenges it undoubtably presents –  is something our customers have varying levels of knowledge about. We have a duty to provide as much information as possible to our customers so they are informed and understand the issues surrounding peat. The talks we are hosting in collaboration with Melcourt will provide a practical insight into how to use peat-free compost in everyday gardening.

“As part of our ongoing sustainability journey, we continue to work hard in partnership with our suppliers to remove bagged peat free compost from our centres.”
