Squire’s Helps Sunbeams to get Growing
Sunbeams Nursery in Chertsey had a special visit from members of their local garden centre, Squire’s Chertsey, recently. The Squire’s team arrived equipped with plants, horticulture knowledge and a helping hand to show the children how to plant up some seasonal baskets.
Each child was given a basket, soil and three plants and the Squire’s team showed the children how to plant-up their containers to create 32 amazing baskets.
Ben Bourne, Centre Manager of Squire’s Chertsey, comments: “This was a great opportunity to show young children how to get growing and tend to something they have planted themselves. There can be lots of learning from growing plants – care, patience, being gentle to plants, as well as achieving something which will bring brilliant rewards. Planting and gardening outdoors bring many benefits including fresh air and a sense of purpose and focus. We hope we might have given a little bit of inspiration to the next generation and look forward to hearing how the children have got on with their plants!”
Nicole Dyos, Teacher and ECO Lead at Sunbeams Nursery, comments: “We were so pleased the Squire’s team came to visit us and brought along the planting activity for the children. We were keen to set up a project as part of our Eco Club to teach our pupils about nature and the cycle of growing. The children were very attentive and thoroughly enjoyed creating their baskets. We are looking forward to following the journey of the plants as they grow.”
